Gaining Christ, trusting Jehovah

“In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely; and this is his name whereby he shall be called: Jehovah our righteousness.” (Jer 23:6 ASV)

Rel om donkere Jezus

In het Noord-Italiaanse Verona is een rel ontstaan om een Jezus met een donkere huidskleur in een kerststal in de plaatselijke rechtbank. De donkere baby is een idee van Mario Giulio Schinaia. Volgens hem blijkt uit onderzoek dat Jezus en zijn 'biologische ouders', Maria en Jozef, waarschijnlijk een donkere huiskleur hadden. En hierin heeft hij gelijk.
"Deze kerststal behoort tot een universele christelijke traditie, die de hele feestvierende christenheid samenbrengt." De regeringspartij Lega Nord heeft geen goed woord over voor de donkere Jezus. "Het is een nutteloze provocatie," stelde zij. Zij vergeten echter de werkelijkheid.
Een blanke Jezus is bedacht door de kerk van Rome. Men zou dat eerder een nutteloze provocatie voor anders gekleurden kunnen noemen. White power, blanke superieuriteit.

Thought:

Don't be afraid! What can cast away all fear in the presence of God's glorious messengers? The joy of knowing that God has brought His son to earth to bring an end to sin and the curse of the first sin in the Garden of Eden and to bring salvation to all people!
Fear must not master our hearts when we know that God has broken through every barrier to reach us with his overwhelming grace.
We may also look up to that child in the manger that grew up to become a great teacher and an example for us.

I praise you, Almighty God, for the gift of joy that chases away all fear. Fill my heart with that joy and fill my mind with wonder as I try to comprehend your love for me. Stir me to greater concern for those who have not heard, or who have not yet accepted, your offer of grace in your Son Jesus, in whose name I pray. Amen.

"En de engel zeide tot hen: Vreest niet, want, ziet, ik verkondig u grote blijdschap, die al den volke wezen zal;" (Lu 2:10 STV)

"'Wees niet bang! Want luister, ik breng u een blijde tijding, die voor het hele volk bestemd is."(GNV)

"En de engel zeide tot hen: Weest niet bevreesd, want zie, ik verkondig u grote blijdschap, die heel het volk zal ten deel vallen:" (NBG 1951)

"De engel zei tegen hen: 'Wees niet bang, want ik kom jullie goed nieuws brengen, dat het hele volk met grote vreugde zal vervullen:" (NBV)

"Wees niet bang," zei hij, "want ik breng u het mooiste nieuws dat u ooit hebt gehoord. Het is groot nieuws voor het hele volk." (Het Boek)

Overdenking van vandaag:

Wees niet bang! Wat kan alle angst afstoten in de aanwezigheid van Gods glorieuze boodschappers? De vreugde van de wetenschap dat God Zijn zoon op aarde heeft gebracht om een einde te maken aan de zonde en de vloek uit de tuin van Eden en om de zegen te brengen voor alle mensen! Angst mag ons hart niet overheersen wanneer we weten dat God elke belemmering heeft doorbroken om ons te bereiken met zijn overweldigende genade en door de genadegave van Zijn zoon.
Wij mogen ook opkijken naar dat kind in de voederbak dat opgroeide tot een volwaardig leermeester en een voorbeeld voor ons.

Gebed:

Ik prijs u, almachtige God, voor het geschenk van vreugde dat alle angst wegjaagt. Vul mijn hart met die vreugde en vul mijn gedachten met verwondering als ik uw liefde voor mij probeer te begrijpen. Breng me tot een grotere zorg voor degenen die uw aanbod van genade in uw Zoon Jezus nog niet hebben gehoord of nog niet hebben aanvaard; in zijn naam bid ik. Amen.

Joodse interpretatie van Zoon van God

In de joodse interpretatie van de uitdrukking ”zoon van God” benadrukte prof. Meijering dat hier iemand genoemd wordt die aan God gehoorzaam is.
"Daarnaast is Christus niet alleen gehoorzaam, maar ook de enige waarachtige Zoon van God. Dit Zoonschap van Christus wordt duidelijk aangegeven in het credo „ontvangen van de Heilige Geest.”

Christus verwekt door de Kracht van de Heilige Geest

Christus werd verwekt door de Vader door de kracht van de Heilige Geest. In tegenstelling tot de mens, had hij geen fysieke vader. Wat we kunnen achterhalen van dit evenement, is echter dat de Heilige Geest het middel is waarmee de Vader Zijn zonen verwekt . Net zoals Christus werd verwekt door de Vader, worden de christenen ook verwekt door Hem. Het enige verschil is dat christenen 'geboren' worden buiten de baarmoeder. Wij beschikken niet over de Heilige Geest tot na de doop (Handelingen 2:38). Zodra we zijn gedoopt en de Heilige Geest ontvangen hebben, worden wij verwekte zonen van God.

Het is door de kracht van de Heilige Geest, dat God ons leert: "Maar de Trooster, de Heilige Geest, die de Vader zenden zal in Mijn naam, [deze] zal u alles leren, en alles in uw herinnering brengen, wat Ik u gezegd heb "(Johannes 14:26). "Doch wanneer [deze], de Geest van de waarheid,  gekomen is, zal [deze] u begeleiden in alle waarheid ..." (Johannes 16:13).

Een geest zonder de Heilige Geest kan geestelijke dingen niet begrijpenen en heeft geen hoop op begrip van Gods Woord - de Bijbel. Het is alleen door de inwoning van de Heilige Geest dat men in staat is om de geest van God te begrijpen. Neem een moment om 1 Korintiërs 2:9-16 te lezen .

De bovengenoemde geschriften, waaronder 1 Korintiërs 2:9-16, kunnen worden samengevat op de volgende manier: Degenen die geleid worden  door de Heilige Geest kunnen geestelijke dingen begrijpen , en degenen die niet worden geleid door de Heilige Geest kunnen niet begrijpen - het is onmogelijk voor hen! Net zoals je de gedachten en manieren van een andere man niet kan weten, kunt u de gedachten en manieren van God niet kennen. Als men op een of andere manier zijn geest zou kunnen "projecteren" in de geest van een andere persoon, dan zou hij die gedachten van die persoon kunnen weten. In zekere zin kan worden gezegd dat de "projectie" van Gods Geest in onze geest datgene is wat ons toelaat "de dingen van God" te begrijpen

De Heilige Geest versterkt ook de christenen op een aantal belangrijke wijzen. Het beschrijft hoe degenen die Gods Geest hebben direct gemachtigd - versterkt - worden. "Dat hij u zou verlenen , volgens de rijkdom van Zijn heerlijkheid, om versterkt te worden met vermogen of kracht door Zijn Geest in de inwendige mens, opdat Christus mag komen wonen in uw hart door geloof, dat u, als geworteld en gegrond in de liefde, in staat kan zijn om te begrijpen met alle heiligen, wat de breedte is en lengte, en diepte en hoogte, en de liefde van Christus te kennen, welke kennis doorgeeft, zodat je misschien gevuld kan worden met al de volheid van God. Nu tot Hem die in staat is meer dan overvloedig te doen boven alles wat wij vragen of denken, naar gelang van de kracht die in ons werkt ... "(Efeziërs 3:16-20).

Christus geeft Zijn dienaren de kracht die nodig is om die dingen te overwinnen welke men in het Engels de drie "S" noemt, namelijk self, satan, society -zelf, Satan en de maatschappij. Dat zijn de drie dingen die een vierde produceren (In het Engels de "S" van sin), zonde. Alle echte overwinningen worden gedaan door de kracht van de Heilige Geest. Net zoals Christus alleen kon overwinnen door dat de Vader in Hem woonde door de Geest, is het door die Geest die binnen een persoon woont, dat elke geestelijke overwinning mogelijk gemaak wordt.

Duidelijk is het dat de Geest niet een persoon is, maar dat het de actie en de macht is. U moet bereid zijn toe te geven dat het rijk van het traditionele christendom (en de wereld in het algemeen) onkundig is gebleven voor wat de Heilige Geest is. Uiteraard heeft dit rechtstreeks bijgedragen aan waarom de natuur van God dus volkomen aan hun begrip ontsnapt.

Christ begotten through the power of the Holy Spirit

Christ was begotten by the Father through the power of the Holy Spirit. Unlike human beings, He had no physical father. What we can glean from this event, however, is that the Holy Spirit is the means by which the Father begets His sons. Just as Christ was begotten by the Father, Christians also are begotten by Him. The only difference is that Christians are begotten outside the womb. We do not possess the Holy Spirit until after baptism (Acts 2:38). Once we are baptised and receive the Holy Spirit, we become begotten sons of God.

It is through the power of the Holy Spirit that God teaches us: “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, [it] shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you” (John 14:26). “Howbeit when [it], the Spirit of truth, is come, [it] will guide you into all truth…” (John 16:13).

A mind without the Holy Spirit cannot comprehend spiritual things and has no hope of understanding God’s Word — the Bible. It is only through the indwelling of the Spirit that one is able to understand the mind of God. Take a moment to read 1 Corinthians 2:9-16.

The above scriptures, including 1 Corinthians 2:9-16, can be summarized in the following way: Those who are being guided by the Holy Spirit can understand spiritual things, and those who are not being led by the Holy Spirit cannot understand — it is impossible! Just as you cannot know the thoughts and ways of another man, neither can you know the thoughts and ways of God. If one could somehow “project” his spirit into the mind of another person, then he could know that person’s thoughts. In a sense, it could be said that the “projection” of God’s Spirit into our minds is what allows us to comprehend “the things of God.”

The Holy Spirit also strengthens Christians in a number of important ways. It describes how God’s Spirit directly empowers — strengthens — those who have it: “That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge, that you might be filled with all the fullness of God. Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…” (Ephesians 3:16-20).

Christ gives His servants the strength needed to overcome what could be called the three “S’s”—self, Satan and society, which are the three things that produce a fourth “S,” sin. All real overcoming is done by the power of the Holy Spirit. Just as Christ could only overcome by the Father dwelling within Him through the Spirit, it is through that Spirit dwelling within a person, that overcoming anything spiritual is made possible.

Clearly the Spirit is not a person, but it is the action and the power. You must be willing to admit that the realm of traditional Christianity (and the world in general) has remained ignorant of what the Holy Spirit is. Naturally, this has directly contributed to why the nature of God so completely escapes their comprehension.
