Keldering van medische voorzieningen van Artsen zonder Grenzen

Het traumaziekenhuis van Artsen Zonder Grenzen in Kunduz was het enige ziekenhuis in Noordoost-Afghanistan waar acute medische en chirurgische zorg werd geboden. Op zaterdag 3 oktober 2015 kwam daar abrupt een einde aan, toen het ziekenhuis met opzet werd gebombardeerd. Twaalf medewerkers van AZG en tien patiënten, waaronder drie kinderen, kwamen om het leven. Nog eens 37 mensen raakten gewond, waaronder 19 collega's. Die aanval was onaanvaardbaar.

Wie dacht dat dit niet weer zou gebeuren was verkeerd.

De laatste twaalf maanden zijn er al vier aanvallen op een medische voorziening van Artsen zonder Grenzen gepleegd.

Op zaterdag 6 augustus 2016 werd een luchtaanval in Millis uitgevoerd, in het Syrische gouvernement Idlib, waarbij een door Artsen Zonder Grenzen ondersteund ziekenhuis verwoest werd. Dertien mensen om kwamen daarbij om het leven, waaronder vier medewerkers van het ziekenhuis en vijf kinderen.

Door de luchtaanval is een groot deel van het ziekenhuis vernietigd. Het ziekenhuis legde zich voor een groot deel toe op kindergeneeskunde en bood zorg in een gebied waar ongeveer 70.000 mensen wonen.
Onder de bewoners van het gebied zijn ook veel vluchtelingen, die geweld op andere plekken zijn ontvlucht. Artsen Zonder Grenzen ondersteunde het ziekenhuis vanaf begin 2014 met voorraden, technisch advies en financiële steun.
Zulke aanvallen op medische instellingen waar iedereen moet kunnen verzorgd worden, is totaal onverantwoord en druist in tegen de internationale akkoorden.

Het wordt steeds moeilijker voor de ngo's om in de oorlogsgebieden hulp te verlenen. AZG is een van de weinigen die nog steeds aan het werk zijn waar anderen al lang geleden de moed hebben opgegeven of gekozen hebben om hun vrijwilligers in veiligheid te brengen.

‘Het bombarderen van dit ziekenhuis in Syrië is verschrikkelijk,’

 zegt operationeel medisch manager Dr. Silvia Dallatomasina.

 ‘De Syrische hulpverleners hebben de moed en toewijding om medische zorg te blijven bieden tijdens de oorlog.'

'Elke keer dat er weer een ziekenhuis wordt geraakt, raakt de Syrische bevolking weer een plek kwijt waar acute, levensreddende hulp wordt gegeven. Artsen zonder Grenzen doet er alles aan om de medische zorg in Syrië te versterken. Maar dit soort aanvallen moeten onmiddellijk ophouden.’

De noodhulpmanager Teresa Sancristóval zegt

‘We zien wederom de verwoestende gevolgen. Een volledig functionerend ziekenhuis vol met patiënten en hulpverleners wordt gebombardeerd gedurende een oorlog waarin geen enkel respect wordt getoond voor medische zorg en patiënten.

Recent riep de VN met een resolutie op om een einde te maken aan aanvallen op ziekenhuizen en internationaal humanitair recht te volgen. Niemand zorgt er echter voor dat de strijdende partijen in Jemen dat doen. Zonder acties zijn dergelijke publieke verklaringen zinloos voor de slachtoffers van deze aanvallen. Dat is onacceptabel.’

Op maandagmiddag 15 augustus  2016 was het weer eens prijs dat de wereld moest toezien hoe onmeedogenloos men geen rekening hield met de wetten van oorlogsvoering die in het verleden werden goedgekeurd door de betrokken partijen. Het door Artsen zonder Grenzen ondersteunde Abs-ziekenhuis in het gouvernement Hajjah in het noordwesten van Jemen werd toen geraakt bij een luchtaanval en werd deels verwoest.

Een medewerker van Artsen Zonder Grenzen stierf ter plekke met 9 andere mensen. Twee patiënten stierven terwijl zij overgebracht werden naar een ander ziekenhuis. Minimaal negentien mensen gewond.

De coördinaten van het ziekenhuis zijn regelmatig gedeeld met alle strijdende partijen, waaronder de door Saudi-Arabië geleide coalitie. De locatie van het ziekenhuis was bovendien alom bekend.

Het Abs-ziekenhuis in Noordwest-Jemen is deels verwoest door een luchtaanval. 14 mensen kwamen om het leven.

Actions show what people really believe!

All around us are those whose actions show they do not give a moment’s thought to there being a God, who had a Son, who invites them to follow him. We ourselves prove by our words and actions in doing “the will of God” whether we really believe – and, as a result, have a wondrous relationship as a brother or sister of Jesus – this being a day after day experience.

As a result, may we be “ready” when Jesus returns.

Increasing turmoil and fear but a rock to look at and go for

“The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge” (2 Samuel 22:2,3).

 As we see the world in 2016 in increasing turmoil and fear, we become aware that

 “salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed”.

 May we be ready and waiting for the return of Jesus, which we pray will be soon.

Words for spiritual strength to endure

Paul tells us,

 “whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope” (Romans 15:4).

 These precious words are designed and have been preserved by God to give us the spiritual strength to endure.

Maleizen convent Sint-Ignatius school under watchful eyes

One month before schools start we wonder what is going to happen to the very conservative Catholic school in Overijse.

Located in the Maleizen convent Sint-Ignatius was officially recognised by the government in November 2015. Because it had fewer than 83 students the shcool did not receive subsidies.

The school has been the cause of some concern in the region, however, because it bases its religion lessons on the Mechelse Catechism, which was published for the last time in 1954. Flanders’ Catholic education network and the archdiocese of Mechelen and Brussels – the most senior of Belgium’s Catholic hierarchy – have now spoken out against the school’s curriculum, saying that it is dangerously outdated.

The founders of Sint-Ignatius, on the other hand, have publicly denounced regular Catholic schools because they allow “atheists and Muslims to teach” and their teachers “encourage the use of contraception”.

Crevits had arranged a second visit by education inspectors to Sint-Ignatius, and also asked the education department’s Management Commission to determine whether the school’s criticism of the Catholic education network constitutes an “attack”. A government circular explicitly forbids school managements to attack other education providers.

French authorities have shut down around 20 mosques and prayer halls

PARIS (AFP) – French authorities have shut down around 20 mosques and prayer halls considered to be preaching radical Islam since December, Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said on Monday.

”There is no place … in France for those who call for and incite hatred in prayer halls or in mosques, and who don’t respect certain republican principles, notably equality between men and women,” the minister said.

“That is why I took the decision a few months ago to close mosques through the state of emergency, legal measures or administrative measures. About 20 mosques have been closed, and there will be others.”

Cazeneuve confirmed that authorities were working on a French foundation for Islam which would guarantee total transparency in financing of mosques “with rigorous respect for secular principles.”

Saudi Arabia’s religious scholars are the ultimate authority on the verification of Islamic materials that Muslims worldwide read, follow, teach and promote. The Saudis spread their approved doctrines throughout the world.

Ali Hammuda, an Imam at a Cardiff mosque where three young jihadis from the city worshipped before travelling to Syria to join Islamic State, told the group of boys as young as 13 that the ‘day of judgment is close’ – a key part of IS’s warped propaganda.

The teachings that cleric Ali Hammuda is propagating has been approved and cleared right from Mecca. In other words, parallel with British law and society there is a Saudi culture and legal system building momentum in the city of Cardiff where that Imam is also preaching things which are not according to our Western values.

Many may not understand that radicalising authority is till allowed to teach in Great Britain.

He tells those who come by him for guidance to what the Prophet says one of the Doomsday signs will be when a slave girl gives birth to her master:

‘One of the interpretations as to what this means is that towards the end of time there will be many wars like what we are seeing today, and because of these wars women will be taken as captives, as slaves, yeah, women will be taken as slaves.

When wars go on  often we can see that children and women are degraded and used as sex slaves. But that does not mean we have to agree with that or to find it normal. but in this teacher his interpretation of the Hadith, coming near the end it will be acceptable that children will come to treat their mothers like slaves and that it is permissible

to have relations with a woman who is your slave or your wife.

 he said.

At no point does Hammuda, who was born in Palestine but brought up in the UK, point out that slavery is no longer permitted in Islam, nor indeed that it is illegal in the UK.

Belgisch priester neergestoken

Zondag namiddag kreeg de 65 jarige Belgische priester een asielzoeker op bezoek. Deze vroeg om zich te kunnen wassen waarop de priester hem toe liet een stortbad te nemen.

Enkele dagen nadat de Franse katholieke priester Jacques Hamel ter dood werd gestoken door twee mannen die trouw hadden beloofd om de Islamitische Staat is er in het Noorden van België ook een priester neergestoken.

In Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, Normandië, Frankrijk was er eerder, op dinsdag, de 85-jarige predikant die in zijn kerk met enkele gelovigen werd gegijzeld door twee tieners. Adel Kermiche en Abdel Malik Nabil Petitjean, beiden 19, name vijf gijzelaars voordat ze de keel van de priester drastisch doorsneden aan het altaar.


De priester is verantwoordelijk voor acht Lanakende parochies en werd eerder deze maand nog gevierd voor zijn 40-jarig priesterschap.

Toen de asielzoeker de priester geld trachtte te ontfutselen ontstond een schermutseling waarop de  overvaller de pastoor daarbij met een mes verwondde. Het slachtoffer raakte gewond aan handen en pezen. De dader sloeg vervolgens op de vlucht.

Pastoor Vanderlee werd naar het ziekenhuis in Genk gebracht voor een operatie. Hij verkeert niet in levensgevaar.
