Saturday 25th June 2016 (God Willing)

Once again the cyclists are out raising money for projects in Uganda! The annual event has been a huge success, raising over £10,500 for the Namisindwa Orphanage in the last two years, and we sincerely thank all the individuals and ecclesias who have generously supported us. The financial stability of the orphanage has made such a big difference to the children's lives in Namisindwa.

This year we have set our sights on raising funds for a water storage project in the Ibanda district of Uganda, and have challenged the cyclists to cycle 50 miles up and down some of the steepest hills in the Mendips, accumulating 3,300ft of climbing and tackling climbs of up to 20% gradient.

If you wish to join us for the cycling and a day of fellowship, details and sign up are available at http://cycleforuganda.co.uk and a link to the BT donation page can also be found there should you wish to donate.

P.S. A date for your diary - next year's event is planned for Saturday 10th June 2017 and will be cycling 88 miles around the Avon Cycleway for Namisindwa.

Saved through grace not through keeping rituals

We cannot ‘earn’ salvation through keeping rituals;
 we are “saved through grace” and it will only be through grace that we will gain a place in God’s kingdom.
 The essential ingredient for those who believe is to develop cleansed hearts,
 the outcome of having a genuine faith.

Last year four courageous and tireless advocates for human rights were the 2015 recipients of the prestigious Alison Des Forges Award for Extraordinary ActivismNisha Ayub, a leading human rights defender on transgender rights in Malaysia; Yara Bader, a journalist and human rights activist who works to expose the detention and torture of journalists in war-torn Syria; Khadija Ismayilova, a prominent investigative journalist who has dedicated her life to fighting for human rights in the former Soviet republic of Azerbaijan; and Nicholas Opiyo, a leading human rights lawyer and founder of the human rights organization Chapter Four Uganda, who has worked tirelessly to defend civil liberties in Uganda.

So many journalists fighting this year for the right of a free voice, having been endangered, I am curious who shall be the nominees.
