(> Gradual decline by American Christians)

Gradual decline by American Christians

When we see documentaries about the North American people we get a picture that they are 'very religious'.

Christianity, which was once shared by a majority of Americans, has seen a gradual decline as fewer people hold to the core tenets of the faith.

The latest research by the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University continues the survey series American Worldview Inventory 2021 in examining biblical and competing worldviews of American adults.

According to the most recent release from the study, there has been a sharp decline in the status of Christianity across the nation in the past several decades. In 1980, more than 90 percent of Americans claimed to be Christian. That percentage dropped to 80 percent by 1990, in which the proportion lasted until after the turn of the millennium. By 2010, only three in four adults claimed to be Christians, with a further decline today as just under two out of three make the same claim.

In the previous century confidence in religion was still important.
About two-thirds of American adults had high confidence in religion in the 1970s. By the 1980s, however, that confidence was waning, and Christianity’s influence was declining.
At the start of the millennium, 56 percent of adults had confidence in religion. That number continued to decline, and now, barely four in ten adults hold a high degree of confidence in religion.

No wonder, you could say, when we look at how ministers used their institutions to gain money and trick people into their 'business'. Small personal family churches were taken over by mega churches where one got lost in the group and where there was not a special bond between teh believers.

A great problem is also that the majority of those churches are Trinitarian churches, where they worship Jesus as their god. Though people came to see the weakness of that person and the contradictions they can find in Scriptures, having a Jesus who can not do a lot of things and does not know a lot of things, whilst the Bible tells us God can do everything and knows everything.

The Bible is also increasingly rejected as a trustworthy and relevant document of life principles. Not many people want to know about the values and ethics presented in the Holy Scriptures.

In 1991, 86 percent of people believed in the existence of God as the all-knowing, all-powerful creator of the universe who still rules the world today. Today, that percentage has dropped to 46 percent.

In a lot of the American churches there was not much time spend on the Word of God. Ministers only took some verses, often out of context, to bring a long sermon, often with a lot of shouting and crying about damnation and danger to burn into hell. Often people could not find a relation between the words of the pastor and the words written in the Bible. That undermined the relevance of the Holy Scriptures in the daily life.

Regarding the belief that the Bible is the accurate and reliable Word of God, the decline shifted from 70 percent in 1991 to 41 percent in 2021. On the topic of salvation, 36 percent of adults believed in salvation through confession of sin and accepting Jesus as Saviour in 1991. Today, that amount is 30 percent. The survey also noted that this measured as high as 45 percent and was 39 percent in 2011.

The percentage of Americans possessing a biblical worldview also significantly decline (12 percent in 1995; 6 percent in 2021).

December 2011 Nederlandstalige artikelen

"Jesus may be cool."

It has truly been an incredible year of prophetical events unfolding before our eyes.
Revolutions & riots, European crisis, natural disasters and the build up to conflict in the Middle East.
Surely our Lord's return is at hand!
As you know the Weekly World Watch looks at 6 key events each week in relation to Bible prophecy.
What I do at the end of the year is group all of the slides produced in the year into "themes".
In effect all the slides in 2011 relating to Israel are grouped together.
All the slides relating to natural disasters are grouped together and so on.
You can then see over a year how things have developed.
It is surprising to look back as we easily forget what has happened only a few months ago!
Click on one of the themes below to download a powerpoint with all the WWW slides for that theme in 2011.
Let us pray that 2012 sees the return of our Lord.
God Willing the WWW will continue next week.

Louise Weiss builiding and towers after Ziggurat Babel

After having looked at Christmas celebrations we considered the historical facts of the figure Jesus (Jeshua), a man who became a great teacher and got a lot of followers, resulting in a new group of believers called Christians. Though not all those Christians do believe the same things and some consider that man who died not just as a god but as God, who would be Three in One. But is that really possible? Can there be a Three-une God?

According to Trinitarians, those who believe in the Holy Trinity, Jesus is god the son, while he is also his father God the Father, and at the same time also the third person God the Holy Spirit. According the Bible is God a Spirit, so we could assume that the Holy Spirit is God. But it is not a person, but the force of God. A spirit cannot die but the human person who was put on a wooden stake and is considered to have died for everybody's sin, did really die.

So who or what do people celebrate on the 25th of December?

Looking at

Jesus begotten Son of God #1 Christmas and Christians and

Jesus begotten Son of God #2 Christmas and pagan rites we continued to look at this strange figure who was born in a warm country but seemed to have connections with a man from the Scandinavian countries who gets down in chimneys to bring people all sorts of presents, while not so many think of the major present the man of Nazareth had brought to humankind.

At the Flemish Website of the Brethren in Christ we continued to look at the problems in this world and how the Holy Scriptures give a picture of what happened because people were stubborn and wanted to keep continuing their own way.

Often people do not want to know anything about God, but as soon something terrible happens they all blame Him for the misery that came over them and other people. Some also say that those disasters are a punishment brought over the unchristian and not honouring God people. But is that really so? And in case it is God who brings a punishment to the people would He not warn them beforehand? And in case God warns the people, why do they not listen?

November 2011 Articles to read

2011 was a year where people once more became confronted with their superiority thinking. Major problems came over the world, who had to face one crisis over the other.

Many people came under attack and older ones got more fragile in their environment. The financial markets got out of hands and pulled down many countries.
The world got a 'New Spring' revolt in the Arabic countries and undignified ‘Los Indignados’ went from Portugal and Spain to Belgium to let Europe hear that it could not go on like this. People questioned if they could belong to one or an other group but saw that there is a major group of 99% against 1% or another 53% (Tot de 99% of de 53% behorende +Oprukkende armoede in Noord Amerika  Onderbroeken, vreemdelingen en rechtsstaat + Occuppy Acties en Sociaal Engagement)

In a certain way people can find solutions to have an reasonable good life. Some crisis brought the country were people were living in such danger that it either broke down and became part of an other country or it grew stronger and became more united. But at the moment the world should note that several people are deprived of the necessary materials to stay in life. too many people are dying from bad conditions created by other human beings.
