From thoughts to actions and destiny

Watch your Thoughts; they become your words.
Watch your Words; they become your actions.
Watch your Actions; they become your habits.
Watch your Habits; they become your character.
Watch your character; it will become your destiny.

Forbidden fruit

Most of us do know about 'forbidden fruit' (Genesis 3:) and don't want to be a 'scapegoat' (Levites16:8,10:26). We all want to be in the 'the land of the living' (Psalms 27:13, 142:5; Isaiah 53:8) and 'from strength to strength'  (Psalms 84:7) we want to go forwards, sometimes hoping that it would be 'for ever and ever' (Psalms 45:1-2, 21; Daniel 2:20; Revelation 11:15). But  how we turn it we are often 'lost sheep' (Matthew 10:6, 15:25) who need their 'daily bread' (Luke 11:3) as 'busybodies' (2 Thessalonians 3:11; 1 Timothy 5:13) we are not 'lukewarm'  (Revelation 3:16) to find the 'tree of life'  (Revelation 22:2).

Honor your own words as if they were an important contract

Honour your own words as if they were an important contract. Once you've said it, you have to keep it.

"He who guards his mouth preserves his life, but one who talks too much comes to ruin.
He who despises a word will suffer for it, but he who respects a command will be rewarded." (Proverbs 13:3,13 Complete Jewish Bible version)

“The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool will fall.” (Proverbs 10:8, King James)

“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hears counsel is wise.” (Proverbs 12:15)

“A reproof enters more into a wise man than a hundred stripes [of the whip] into a fool.” (Proverbs 17:10)

“A little that a righteous man has is better than the riches of many wicked.” (Psalms 37:16)

“A righteous [one] hates lying: but a wicked [one] is loathsome, and comes to shame.” (Proverbs 13:5)

“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14)

“My son, if you will receive my words, and hide my commandments with you so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; yes, if you cry after knowledge, and lift up your voice for understanding, if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom: out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding; he lays up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to those who walk uprightly. He keeps the paths of judgment, and preserves the way of his saints. Then you will understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yes, every good path.” (Proverbs 2:1-9)

In the daily reality, words are like pennies - going from hand to hand, mouth to mouth. Sometimes we have a break in our "brain to mouth" connection. Soul, heart and brain should be in harmony, and words not more than a good tool which is used wisely.

No person has greater love than this one who surrendered his soul in behalf of his friends

John 15:13 (33 kb)
Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

Thoughts
Words communicate and explain. We can tell people that we love them. We can explain how precious they are to us. Actions validate and confirm. When we sacrifice our preferences for another, we show our respect and affection. When we sacrifice ourselves, our wishes, and our preferences for a friend, we give the greatest of all gifts and prove our love beyond any doubt.
Prayer
Father, thank you for loving me enough to send Jesus as a ransom for my sins. I am
thankful that Jesus gave himself as a loving sacrifice that not only saves me, but shows me the full extent of your love. In Jesus' name I thank you. Amen.
Dutch version / Nederlandse versie > Niemand heeft zulk een grote liefde als hij die zij leven gaf voor zijn vrienden

The Tongue an Outlet

The Tongue an Outlet

"This diagnosis is even more true of the soul. According to the Apostle James the tongue is an unerring sign of spiritual condition. Like mercury the tongue tells the temperature. As the fever increases the tongue becomes expansive. Its output is very often the most telling projection of what a man really is. That is why by our words we shall be justified or condemned. That is why the unpremeditated activity of the tongue will have to be accounted for in the day of judgement. The absolute nature of the Apostle James' teaching about the tongue is often overlooked. He says it can defile the whole body. Jesus said that the forces which defile come from inside. The tongue is an outlet for internal influences, some of which are tainted with defilement. "The things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart." In the list are evil thoughts, murder, false witness and fornication. At the worst stage of the disease the possibilities are awful. That is why James is so absolute. The Apostle does not beat about the bush. He says emphatically, "The tongue is a fire." He means that by it the spirit is inflamed. "Behold how great a matter a little fire kindleth." In the R.V.: "Behold how much wood ... "James' wood is a forest. A forest fire is a fearful thing started sometimes by one careless ember, multiplied many times as it spreads: in James' metaphor a wheel that catches fire as it goes. Think of it on a practical level. Sometimes those who meet together on Sunday and speak of love and fellowship, on Monday change their overcoat and say things which are harsh, unloving and censorious. As it spreads, the fellowship is fevered and friendships are soured. The ecclesia is harmed and the cause of the Truth is hindered. The smouldering fire runs on and the innocent are scorched and blistered."
