One who gives striking evidence of extraordinary powers in the miracles he performs; he makes the most penetrating observations about human life, and faith, and the true worship of God; and his claims concerning himself, as the only source of life to come, are such as no one else would dare to make.

De moderne Bijbelvertaling, naar het voorbeeld van de ‘Goed Nieuwsbijbel’, wordt gemaakt voor mensen met weinig leeservaring of voor hen die Nederlands als tweede taal hebben. Ook mensen met een leeshandicap worden hiermee in staat gesteld de Bijbel zelf te lezen.
Dr. Jaap van Dorp, coördinator Bijbelwetenschappen Oude Testament bij het NBG (Nederlands Bijbelgenootschap) en betrokken bij het project de Bijbel in Gewone Taal: “Als je een Bijbelvertaling in gewone taal moet maken, kun je maar een heel beperkte woordenschat gebruiken van niet meer dan 3.000 woorden. Je moet ook oppassen met het gebruik van beeldspraak. Beeldspraak maakt een tekst moeilijker. Een uitdrukking als ‘Gods nieuwe wereld’ kan prima. 'Gods nieuwe wereld' is veel concreter dan 'het koninkrijk van de hemel’.”
