Two forms of Freedom

There are in fact two forms of freedom - the false where we are free to do what we like; and the true where we are free to do what God likes.
Perhaps we all need to take time occasionally to reflect on our Christian life and ask ourselves two questions. What have I been saved to? How true is my freedom?

Twee vormen van Vrijheid

Er zijn inderdaad twee vormen van vrijheid
- de verkeerde waar wij vrij
zijn dat te doen waarvan wij houden;
en de ware waar wij
vrij zijn te doen waar God van houdt.
Misschien moeten wij allemaal even tijd nemen om op ons christelijk leven te weerspiegelen
en ons twee vragen stellen.
Tot wat ben ik gered? Hoe waar is mijn vrijheid?
Denk er even over na!

The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds; casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ-2 Cor. 10: 4, 5.

Let us remember that the first condition of acceptance with God is loyal obedience to His Word, the evidence of love for Him and faith in Him. Let us remember, also, that the second qualification He will look for in us is love for the brethren, readiness to be, to do and to suffer, to die on behalf of those who are really, truly consecrated children of God, seeking to walk in His ways-Z '99, 11 (R 2413).

The weapons of our warfare are the reverse of carnal weapons; they are the Spirit and Word of our God. These, however, are sufficient to overthrow the strongholds of evil within us, root up imaginations and every pride-producing thing, and to enable us to subject our dispositions, thoughts, motives, words and acts to Christ, our Head, which proves our weapons to be effective-P '34, 95.

Swedish theologian finds historical proof Jesus did not die on a cross

'Jesus did not die on the cross'

The Swedish theologian Gunnar Samuelsson draws in his thesis, based on examination of historical sources that Jesus Christ died on the cross.

For us it is clear that in the Bible is written that Jesus died on a stake (a pole) or piece of wood; and what has historically done in that time by the Romans in order to sentence a murderer to death. But through the centuries, the image became fused with the wrong Renaissance image.

The image of the cross is based on traditions and expressions in art, and not on actual facts. There is an extensive collection of Greek, Latin and Hebrew literature on the methods used by the Romans for criminals. Nowhere is mentioned a cross or crucifixion.

The New Testament says nothing about a crucifixion says Samuelsson. The Greek word 'stauros' that often is used, is translated to cross, but in those days meant 'pole'.  Jesus died not on the cross but to a pole.

Samuelsson knows he's denial of the cross may break many people's heart. The theologian is himself a believer and sees Jesus as the Son of God. "I do not doubt the faith, but we must believe what it says". And that last point is missed by a lot of people. Usually they want to stick to entrenched images that have nothing to do with reality.
