How do you become a "Virtual" Bible School attendee?

How do you become a "Virtual" Bible School attendee?  It's easy.  Here are three steps:
 
1. Obtain a set of Bible School CDs or audio tapes.  If  you or your ecclesia don't have an audio library, know that the WCF has a large selection of recordings that will allow you to listen in on some wonderful past Bible School classes. 2.  Set aside a specific time each day to listen to the classes.  If you commute to work, listen to your classes on the way to and from the office each day.  If you are at home, consider playing the classes at the same time your brothers and sisters might be sitting in on "live" classes at Bible School.  
 
3.  If at all possible, make a point to get together with another Brother or Sister during the week.  Meet for coffee.  Invite them over for dinner.  Plan your own "ice cream social".  Find ways to encourage each other as we see the day approaching.  If you're like me, one of my favorite parts of Bible School is the fellowship shared with friends.

Calvijn worstelde ook met de drie-eenheidsleer

Te Aix-en-Provence vond het achtste congres van het International Reformed Theological Institute (IRTI) plaats, dat geheel in het teken stond van Calvijn en zijn erfenis.

Het IRTI werd destijds opgericht door de Nederlandse theoloog A. van de Beek. Oost-Europese theologen hadden aangegeven zich tijdens de periode van het IJzeren Gordijn sterk in de steek gelaten te hebben gevoeld, ook door hun gereformeerde vakgenoten in Nederland. Om te voorkomen dat zoiets nog een keer zou kunnen gebeuren, richtte Van de Beek toen met enkele anderen het IRTI op als een wereldwijd netwerk van gereformeerde theologen, een soort gereformeerde 'internationale'.

Door elke twee jaar ergens bijeen te komen, blijven ze van elkaars situatie en theologisch denken op de hoogte en wordt voorkomen dat ze door onbekendheid opnieuw langs elkaar heen leven.

Met lezingen over de sacramenten en de verkiezing stond de laatste dag van de conferentie van het International Reformed Theo­logical Institute (IRTI) in het Franse Aix-en-Provence zaterdag in het teken van Calvijns geestelijke nalatenschap.

Eerder vorige week hield dr. G. van den Brink een lezing over Calvijn en de leer van de Drie-eenheid. Hij gaf weer hoe Calvijn in dezen worstelde met de belijdenissen van de Oude Kerk. Toen hem in 1537 werd gevraagd deze belijdenissen –met name die van Nicea en Athanasius– te ondertekenen, weigerde hij.

Het probleem was voor Calvijn dat hij de mensen er niet toe wilde bewegen formuleringen te beamen inzake hun geloof die niet in de Bijbel gevonden werden. Daarom meed hij ook een trinitarische formulering in zijn catechismus van 1537. Nochtans stemde hij er op den duur mee in, aanvankelijk om pragmatische redenen, later toch meer uit innerlijke overtuiging, al wilde hij de belijdenissen meer geestelijk dan letterlijk verstaan.

Calvijn was er geen voorstander van „voortdurend te twisten louter over woorden.” In zijn Institutie beleed hij de relatie van Vader, Zoon en Geest: „We zijn ervan overtuigd dat we geen andere Leider en Gids naar de Vader hebben dan de Heilige Geest, evenals er geen andere weg tot Hem is dan Christus.” Het sola Scriptura maakte Calvijn niet tot een confessionalist, maar ook niet tot een biblicist, aldus dr. Van den Brink.
