Moeten wij ons aan de zondagsplicht houden

In onze contrijen werd er vroeger zeer sterk gehouden aan allerlei diensten op speciale dagen. Niemand kon onderuit de zondagsplicht. Het was de laatste dag van de week, waarbij iedereen af zag van werk en zich tot meerdere keren op die dag naar de kerk begaf. Er was de ochtendmis, het lof en soms ook een avondmis.

Vandaag kan men echter de vraag stellen of er wel een verschil is tussen de dagen van de week. Voor de meeste mensen lijken de dagen allemaal het zelfde. Welke dag het moge zijn moeten zij die activiteiten kunnen verrichten die zij graag willen doen. Vandaag ligt de ontspanning wel voorop, maar men merkt ook meer dat er meer mensen op al de dagen van de week moeten werken.

De mensen willen alle dagen van de week kunnen winkelen en uit gaan. De mensen in die industrie moeten dan ook bereid zijn om op alle dagen klaar te staan om te werken. De roep om de shoppingcentra alle dagen van de week open te hebben is sterk. In meerdere landen kan men trouwens reeds 24 uur op 24 uur boodschappen doen. Hier vindt men ook wel in steden en enkele dorpen nachtwinkeltjes, maar deze hebben hier beperkte openingsuren. Toch willen de mensen graag op elk moment van de dag of van de week hun plezier hebben. De godsdienst of eredienst komt voor de meeste mensen zelfs niet meer ter sprake. Wie zou er nog naar een mis gaan?

De dingen om te socialiseren en uit te gaan zijn nu de evenementen geworden. Sport en cultuur evenementen kunnen nu op eenders welke dag van de week plaats vinden.

Diegenen die nog het meest op een heilige dag in de week staan zijn de Moslims die niet graag hun vrijdaggebed over slaan. Bij de katholieken kan men zondags niet veel mensen in de kerk vinden. Bij de protestanten krijgen de Pinkstergemeenten zondags wel actievere mensen op de been.

Wij kunnen ons afvragen of God gecommandeerd heeft dat er in de week een specifieke dag moest zijn waarbij de mensen zouden afzien van te werken en van elke vorm van zelfbevrediging? Wenst God dat er elke week een speciale dag is om Hem te loven en te eren? Heeft Hij een wekelijkse Eredienst voor Hem verplicht? en moet die eredienst dan vrijdags, zaterdags of zondags, de eerste dag of de laatste dag van de week plaats grijpen?
Hebben de Joodse sabbath dag wetten nog enige betekenis voor de hedendaagse gemeenschap? Zouden de volgers van Christus zich aan die sabbath wetten moeten houden?

Losstaand van enige godsdienstige overtuigen nemen meerdere mensen wel aan dat men niet alle dagen voluit kan werken en dat er best een patroon kan zijn van zes of zelfs vijf dagen werk en daaropvolgend een periode van korte rust voor een dag of twee. Alsook kijkt bijna iedereen er naar uit dat na een langere periode van werk ook een langere periode van vrije tijd komt. Niemand zou nog graag zijn of haar vakantie in het water zien vallen.

De meeste mensen zullen spoedig reklameren indien zij week in week uit zonder enige break zouden moeten werken. Ze zouden het niet slikken als hun werkgever hen geen regelmatige rustperiode zou geven.Het is niet zozeer het patroon van werk en rust dat de moeilijkheid creeert. De focus gaat uit naar wat de mensen zouden moeten doen op die dag van rust en welke dag daarvoor het best kan genomen worden.

Zei God dat de mensen zouden gestraft worden als zij niet zouden rusten op de zevende dag?
Was er een patroon van werk en rust dat werd opgelegd voor de natie Israël? Zes dagen werk en dan een dag van rust? In Genesis kunnen wij wel zulk een voorbeeld vinden. Werd God zijn activiteit, beschreven onder zes dagen Schepping en op de zevende dag een dag van rust, vorm en voorbeeld voor ons om op te volgen? Ook kan men de vraag stellen of wij als mensen die op de sabbath rusten wij ons niet wouden identificeren met God? Kijken wij er ook niet naar uit om een dag te hebben als God waarop wij kunnen zeggen dat hetgeen wij gedaan hebben 'Goed gedaan is'(Genesis 1:31)?

Voorzag God de sabbath om voordelen over te brengen naar de mens die gebukt ging onder vele lasten en moeten wij de Sabbath onderhouden?

Do we need to keep the Sabbath

Is there still a difference between the days of the week? For most of the people every day looks the same. People want to have the shops, bars and places of entertainement open 24 hours a day, every day of the week. Sporting and other events are held on any day from Monday to Sunday.

Those who keep most to a sacred day in the week seem to be the Muslims who do not skip their Friday prayer.
We can wonder if God has commanded that there should be kept one day in the week by abstaining from all forms of self-indulgence? Should this then be the first, or seventh, a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, a special day of the week? Do the Jewish sabbath day laws have any meaning for today's society? Should they be kept by followers of Christ?

Quite apart from religious belief, most people accept that the pattern of five or six days of work, followed by a shorter period of relaxation or rest, is a healthy one. They would soon complain strongly if their employer suddenly decided to require them to work with no weekly break at all! It is not the pattern of work and rest that creates the difficulty. The question focuses on what men and women can or should do on their day of rest, and which day of the week that should be.

Did God say people would be punished for not resting on the seventh day? Was there a pattern of work and rest enforced for the nation of Israel?
Six days of gathering and one day of rest? We do find such an example in Genesis. Did God's activity in Creation became the example for His nation? Can we say that by resting on the sabbath, man would identify himself with God, and with the completion of His creation, when He was able to review "everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good" (Genesis 1:31)?

Did God provided the sabbath to confer benefits on anyone who was oppressed-it was "made for man"  and do you need to keep the Sabbath?

The authority of any religion depends upon its origin. Who is pronouncing what is truth? If the origin is purely human, why should we take any notice?
Are the teachings of Christianity accepted because they are found originally in the writings of men, which make up the Bible? What can the compilation extended from the days of Moses (1400 BC) to the days of the apostle John (end of 1st Century AD), a period of 1,500 years have of significans? Are its writings writings philosophical predictions?
Who is really responsible for them? Is there somebody behind them?

Does God answer prayer?

Nobody who is even faintly religious would deny that prayer Is part of the religious life. In all sorts of religions people are calling to their gods. Lots of rituals are brought forwards to attract gods or to get their attention.
In the rich countries nobody wants to know about God, but as soon as something serious happens they all start to blame God, or they start praying to Him. People who have had little to do with a church, who have seldom picked up a Bible, who have given scant attention to God, will, faced with a crisis, turn to prayer. 

Many a helpless individual, faced with the stark reality of death, has gone down on his knees in prayer. It sometimes comes as a surprise to discover that some of the most powerful men in history have been men of prayer.

There are those who pray because they are conscious of a need and recognize that God alone can meet that need. Are they right in thinking that it matters how and to whom they pray?

Does there exist  an effective prayer?

Does God answer prayer?

Heeft het zin om te bidden?

Niemand die nog maar vaag religieus is zal ontkennen dat het gebed onderdeel is van het religieuze leven. In allerlei religies roepen mensen om hun goden. Veel rituelen zijn naar voren gebracht om goden aan te trekken of om hun aandacht te krijgen.
In de rijke landen wil bijna niemand weten over God, maar zodra er iets ernstigs gebeurt weten ze Hem wel te vinden en beginnen ze allemaal God de schuld te geven, of ze beginnen tot Hem te bidden. Mensen die weinig te maken hebben met een kerk, die zelden een Bijbel opnemen, die nauwelijks aandacht geven aan God, zullen wanneer ze geconfronteerd worden met een crisis, zich tot gebed wenden. Vele hulpeloze individuen, geconfronteerd met de grimmige realiteit van de dood, zijn op hun knieën in gebed gekomen. Het komt soms als een verrassing te ontdekken dat een aantal van de machtigste mannen in de geschiedenis mannen van gebed zijn.
Er zijn mensen die bidden omdat ze zich bewust zijn van een behoefte en erkennen dat God alleen kan voldoen aan die behoefte. Hebben ze gelijk in hun denken dat het er toe doet hoe en tot wie zij bidden?
Bestaat er een effectief gebed?

Wie kunnen wij vertrouwen

Hebt u zich al een afgevraagd wie u werkelijk kan vertrouwen?

Als u rondom u kijkt kan je mensen vinden waarvan je denkt dat je er best niet te veel aan vertelt en anderen waar je weer je diepste gehimen aan zou kunnen vertellen.
Hoe zit het voor je levensomstandigheden en voor de toekomst die voor jouw ligt? Je kan misschien denken dat er wel of geen politiekers zijn waarop je kan vertoruwen. Of misschien denk je dat niemand die in politiek zit te vertrouwen is. Je denkt dat het slijmballen zijn of dat ze toch die dingen gaan doen die zij voor hen belangrijk vinden. Of dat zij zich helemaal niet aan hun woord zullen houden.
Indien je denkt dat politiek onzinnig is kan je misschien afvragen of je je wel mee bezig moet houden. Maar ook als Christen kan je eens nagaan in welke mate wij ons met politiek moeten of mogen bezig houden.
Je kan je afvragen of wij wel moeten gaan stemmen of dat wij ons kunnen aansluiten bij een politieke partij of nog verder gaan en ons als kandidaat kunnen voorstelllen?
In de wereld gebeuren zo veel dingen dat er genoeg gebeurtenissen zijn of zaken waar wij ons tegen willen verzetten. Maar in welke mate kunnen wij ons verzetten tegen die tegen de borst stotende zaken ? Kunnen wij reagerende groepen vervoegen of ons mee inzetten in een demanstratie groep?

Wat wij ons ook moeten afvragen is  hoe het gesteld staat met de verplichtingen van het land waar wij wonen of burger van zijn.
Volgens ons moet je de wetten van dat land ook gehoorzamen indien ze niet tegen de wil van God gaan. En nergens heeft God verboden te stemmen. Indien het verplicht is om te stemmen, zoals in België dan moet je je aan die verplichting houden.(Geef de kezier wat de keizer toekomt) Dit hoeft niet in te houden dat je niet zou denken dat God de enige is die alles kan oplossen.

Want uiteindelijk zal het volgens ons Jezus Christus zijn die de wereldorde op zijn juiste plaats zal kunnen brengen en de start zal kunnen geven van het meest volledige en juist zijnde Koninkrijk. Het Koninkrijk van God zal het beste beheer hebben en is de enige mogelijkheid om het volledige geluk te geven.

If you look around you can find people that you think you do best not to tell too much and others where you could tell your deepest secrets.
What about your living conditions and for the future that lays in front of you? You might think that there are politicians you can rely on or not trust. Or maybe you think that no one in politics is to be trusted. You think that they are slime balls or still do those things they find important to them. Or that they do not keep to their word.

If you think politics is nonsense perhaps you can ask whether you should be engaged. But as a Christian you can examine to what extent we agree with our politicians or may have to attend to it.
You may wonder whether we actually need to vote or whether we can join a political party or even go further and imagine us to come forward as a candidate?
In the world so many things that happen there are plenty of events or things we want to resist to. But to what extent we can resist against the chest punching things? Can we join reactive groups or join a group demonstration? Which are groups we would consider valuable to join and which not worthy or even wrong to join?

What we also need to ask is how it is about the obligations of the country where we live or are citizens from.
I think you must obey laws of that country if they do not go against the will of God. And nowhere has God forbidden voting. If it is required to vote, as in Belgium you should keep to that commitment. (Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar) How you vote is up to your conscience. This is not to imply that you would not think that God is the only one who can solve everything.

Because we believe that it will ultimately be Jesus Christ that will bring the world order in its place, and give the start to the most complete and accurate Kingdom. The Kingdom of God will have the best management and is the only way to give full happiness.
